The Brazilian government has confirmed that the Newcastle disease outbreak in Santa Catarina state is now under control. The disease, which affects poultry, was first detected in late October 2026. Authorities implemented a series of measures including culling infected flocks and imposing movement restrictions on poultry.
The outbreak affected over 100,000 birds across 25 farms in the region. The disease spread rapidly through commercial poultry operations, prompting immediate action from local health officials. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) worked alongside state authorities to monitor the situation and provide technical support.
Newcastle disease is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to high mortality rates in birds. It has been reported in several states in recent months, raising concerns among farmers and public health officials. This outbreak marks the third in Santa Catarina this year, following similar incidents in March and June. The government has emphasized the importance of biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks.
